Accommodation and facilities:
This is written from the perspective of a mother of a 15 month old. Moonhut Bungalows is a great little place to stay in Maenam, if you are a couple who want a quiet getaway, of any age. The beach is kept beautifully and you have the restaurant/reception no more than 10m away from you. It is easy enough to get a cab to a different beach if you want more activity but the beach and sea really are lovely just here. Food in the restuarant is quick and pretty good. No childrens options and no small size dishes so its full price rather than some great places we stayed at where they accomodated for children. Breakfast is not included. The young staff that work here are wonderful. Inparticular Sun who was excellent with the baby who formed a real attachment to him. All of the staff are lovely so its such a pity that the owners are so standoffish and occasionally rude. The English owner snarls around as if the world has done him wrong, dont take it personally, he's like that with everybody! Again, as a mother I write this comment, if I were a backpacker it wouldnt faze me but the owners have huskie dogs that are not trained at all. They regularly begged in the restaurant and would come up and into your room and snarl if you tried to get them to leave. They are on face level with children. I LOVE dogs, I did not trust these dogs one bit. The beach: As I said, it is beautiful but there are no umbrellas so no shade away from the sun, again fine for sunbathing, not for kids. And in the shady area there are millions of ants, bitey ones. This review makes Moonhut sound poor. It is not. The accomodation is basic but clean and the staff are lovely. The food is fine and the location briliant. As a backpacker I would give this place a 3.5 out of 5. As a mother I would give it 2. Tip: Dont bother about the beach facing bungalows as only Bungalow one is actually beach facing. (although these are the only ones that have fridges). If you are not worried about teh Fridge ask for B2, you can see the sea from your balcony and its 500 baht cheaper! Oh, if you want internet you have to pay 900 baht for the privillage!!!!

My son and I spent 4 days at Moonhut and it truly felt like home. The staff is friendly and accommodating, they arranged taxis, tours and car rental for us and were organized and efficient. My son loved the swing set and there were many other children who passed through for him to play with. Our ocean bungalow was comfortable and clean, but when we switched to a garden bungalow it smelled very musty and had a leaky sink. The food was average but the restaurant was very convenient and we took almost all of our meals there. The beach had a terrific view but was nothing spectacular. It was raked often and the water was pretty clean but the area was small. We did not like the town of Maenam, there was too much traffic and no interesting shops.

Located right on the beach. Bungalow had very cold water only and a fan (all A/C rooms were booked). Small room, bed very worn out with springs poking out. Staff was not accomodating at all-didn't seem to care about guests. When checking in we asked if we can book an extra day and be out by 6:00 PM and they said they would let us know. We had a later flight out and when we inquired in the early morning they said that they gave the room to someone else. If they were smart they could of let us stay and get the rental income from us and also from a late arrival that evening. Not very good communication with the staff.

Bungalows situated in quiet area of beach. The beach was probably the nicest spot along that stretch. We stayed in a fan bungalow, clean, basic and absolutely fine. Staff cleaned the bungalows and changed the towels every da, a really nice touch. Reception staff very helpful and after having left some items in the hotel at Surat Thani they arranged for these to be delivered to us, with no extra charge. All done with a smile. A good place to relax for a few days. Liked it alot and would go back there.

Our family had a great time last week. The service was very good, very helpful with calling taxies. The only suggestions I would make are to get a few more umbrellas as they were usually used and more shade is needed. The other is that we really wanted to take a short snorkling trip but you boat was way too expensive. We had six people and would ve filled the boat but not at $450 each. Your food was wonderful. We often ate right there because it was the best on the beach. The kids loved the watermelon shakes.

We lived there for nine nights, in beachfront no 2. Location is very nice with 20 meters walk to the water. Rather coarse sand but OK. The pity is that you have to walk in sand everywhere from the bungalow. No walkways on stones or concrete to the restaurant or exit. There are friendly staff and food is tasty. The sea is rather muddy and not clean.

Yep moonhut was great! The seaview were already booked so we got the next level down, still pretty much right on the beach! Sand isn't powdery like chawang, but still okay to walk on. Food was nice, but if you walk west down the beach you'll get to a fairly lively area with a few independent places, and other hotels. We went for new year. Most of us went over to Had Rin, but those who stayed said Moonhut did a really good party. The owners were very helpful in arranging things for us. Our friend left her camera in her room and they have found it and are posting it back. Would def recommend if you want to be right on the beach. I would go again.

Great facilities, good swimming and excellent massage ladies-ask for Kwan! We have done the whole island and considering it's proximity, close to all but away from the humdrum!15mins to Chaweng,Bangrak and close to Fishermans village and Big Buddha. Main meal prices have climbed to restaurant prices however basic fare remain reasonable and best of all is Happy hour which is from 5-7pm!!!Can't wait to go back, such a memorable experience!

Moonhut was in a beautiful location, away from the busy east coast , and on the northern mae nam beach, beautiful clear sea to swim in morning , noon, and night. we stayed in bungalow no.2 which had AC which worked fine, the plumbing was a little poor, but didnt bother us. the restaurant had a large choice, and was basic but fresh and tasty, the staff were very friendly despite them looking tired a lot of the time. the massage centr on the beach run by KWAN a thai girl was superb and was visited by us every day. the views were excellent over the sea and towards koh pagn yan island - I would return to this location again ... for the price it was good value for money
Reservation service:
good, despite, the fact that on arrival they knew nothing of my booking at Moonhut , but was resolved but a different bungalow offered with a better view.

The ambiente is very nice under palms an with a good view to Ko Phangan. The bungalows are clean and nice furnitured. Some of them stay directly at the beach. The resort is ca. 500m away from the street, so its quiet, but you can reach the shops and restaurants within a 10 minute walk. I would go there again. there is no Disco Live, like at the crouded Chaweng Beach. No problems at beach side with waterscooter.

I stayed in the aircon room/bungalow for 4 nights. The room was acceptable but very basic. The bed was big and comfortable. Aircon was quiet and worked well. The bathroom was ok, however the water leaked from the bathroom into the closet area space that leads to the bedroom. I had to ask to have it mopped up each time after I took a shower (there is no shower cubicle in the bathroom - just the shower itself so the water goes over the floor). The staff were friendly but service not exceptional. One of the senior staff seemed quite moody compared to the others. Food & coffee were good - fresh and tasty. Personally I think it wasn't that cheap (for Thailand) given that this was a budget hotel option. It was right on the beach however which was a definite bonus. Friends stayed in the beachfront bungalow - these were much nicer and I would suggest staying in one of these if you can stretch your budget. [Also, check out Hutcha which is just 100m down the beach - same price point, but nicer quality with a pool, tho not quite on the beach itself.]

Must say that our experience was not the best one...but not he worst one neither. We got a fan bungalow (550baht) which was very basic, which is ok but usually we get better quality for this amount... There were signs in the bunglaow that if you do this or that wrong we will charge you (e.g. harm towels, block the toilet..) which did not give very friendly impression, things could be said in more polite way. The mattress was very hard and the bungalow had lots of ants, they came to bed and walked over us during the night. The restaurant was very basic but very expensive compared to same quality elsewhere. Staff did not speak good English and we had some communication problems. But not all bad, the beach was nice and the people were smiling :)

WE had a lovely stay, We would definately come again. Everybody who works at moonhut are friendly and helpful. We couldn't have asked for nicer people. We felt like we were leaving good friends behind. The setting is stunning and they kept the whole of moonhut clean and tidy, it is a very safe environment for familys, my daughter didn't want to come home. One of the best holidays we have had.

Nice place on Ko Samui. Get away from the crowds at CheWang and stay on the north side of the island. This place is at Mae Nam beach which is about 30 minutes taxi ride from the port. Really great restaurant - right on a beautiful small bay (very thin beach at high tide). Bungalows are too pricey at 500B but pleasant - clean with fans (a/c if more $$) and they are set back off the beach so no views. Worth more like 400B but I booked ahead of time and only had two nights so it's okay. Staff friendly and a good stop over place before moving on.

We loved Moonhut Bungalow - it was exactly what we wanted: very relaxed and down to earth, yet with everything that we needed. We stayed in beach front bungalow #1, which was a divine location. All the other guests were really friendly, and we enjoyed chatting to them at the bar each night. The food was good, the beach is lovely, the water warm & calm. Perfect if you want a relaxing holiday without crowds of people and loud restaurants & bars (you can find all of that at Chaweng Beach about 20 mins away if you want). Perfect.

I would like to recommend the Moonhut Bungalow for everyone who is looking for a little peace of paradise in peace!!!! I absolutely loved this place. Locaton: It is situated on a quiet and peacefull beach, Maenam Beach. It is not close to entertainment or bars or restaurants, although it is only 15 minutes with the cheap songtaews. Maenam beach is very clean and you feel like heaven there. I walked for 1 hour along the beach towards Bo Phut and I saw maximum 5 persons. VERY NICE if you are looking for relaxation. Bungalows : To my surprise the bungalows are really very clean and they are cleaned every day! I stayed in the airco room AC3 and it right on the beach ony few step from the sea. EXTRAORDINARY. And this for not much money. Overall : The kitchen is also very good and they offer a large variety of meals. Even if it is not on the menu, you can ask the cook to prepare it for you. Staff is very very friendly and always want to help. I especially enjoyed the massage on the beach!!! Conclusion : If you are looking for some good accommodation and don't want to be in the busy touristic places (Chaweng and Lamai Beach) this is THE PLACE TO BE) I can defenitely recommend it and I will also go back as soon as possible!

Arrived to find they had no record of our reservation. Given Yellow House to stay in for the night which was infested with ants. Shower drain made the bathroom smell like sewage. Next night moved to garden bungalow. No fridge/tv but excellent location. Friendly staff, good food, good price. Warning: bungalows are down a long gravel driveway so make sure your taxi takes you all the way down.

Just okay, I guess you get what you pay for! Great location, great beach, but we felt like we were living above a giant septic tank, we felt like we had to spend as much time away from the premises as much as possible. Better to pay 10 bucks more few doors down at the Florist, much better value for money.

Stayed 3 nights here after the long flight from USA and it was ideal- nothing fancy but big enough room, hot shower, and right on the beach- I mean steps away (#1 bungalow). Awesome swimming and beachfront, unlike other parts of Samui. The food at the restaurant was excellent and was cheaper than one would expect on Samui. Location is best if you don't plan on going far and it is quiet and secluded- no clue that the Chaweng madness is near at all. Highly recommend as a quiet beautiful spot to just chill.

Can't get much closer to the beach than this! Facilities satisfactory and staff pleasant. Beach swept each morning and sun lounges available for sunbaking. Reasonable bar prices and happy hours. Ignore the mosquito swamp at the rear of the bungalows, short walk down dirt track to small village (love the 7-11) and advisable to take a torch if walking at night. Would return if the opportunity arose. Happy travels!!

Accommodation and facilities:
Moon Hut Bungalows is great, a lovely spot on the beach with bar and restaurant, I d definitely recommend it if you want to chill out in one of the less touristy parts of Ko Samui. You can have a basic but comfortable bungalow for 500 baht or pay more for aircon and a sea view. Staff friendly and if you stay here you can't help but meet other people. Don't expect crystal clear waters. The sea was very clean but not the place to come for snorkelling, it is also very shallow, you can swim out 60m and still stand up. The beach around the whole bay was clean with white sand. Walking along the beach there are a number of bar/restaurants and Mae Nam has plenty more on the main road set back a bit from the beach. Most are local restaurants, one or two run by expats. Lots of interesting local shops and markets. If you want a place that's relatively undeveloped and you re not bothered about partying till 3am then Mae Nam could be the place for you, and Moon Hut Bungalows hits the spot perfectly.

A nice quiet place, lots of vegetation and birds, the beach is small and clean. Very friendly girls at the reception, they were always ready to help. Room service leaves something to be desired - the cleaning wasn't perfect (although the bungalow was tiny, actually, almost nothing to clean!) and the sheets obviously weren't changed every day. But that was compensated by the scenery, great food at the restaurant and friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Maybe we'll be back someday :)

We had one of three beechfront a/c bungalows. Not mentioning a few noisy geco lizards inside it was nice and cleaned every day.The restaurant is rather expensive and they lift the prices even more just day before Christmas. You wouldn't find out this on siameservices.com. What they also do they let you eat and drink and you pay when you check out so be careful. But what happened on Christmas day we never forget! We had 3 small beers and 2 drinks with my wife at local bar and when I paid they want for us to pay for 5 beers plus drinks. The owner gave me back 120 baht after I complained and get no word of appology. I said I dont like this attitude and she told us very publicly: If you don't like it then f..k of. From that time we did nt buy anything from there and as we plan going to Thailand next time again we re sure to go somewhere else!

Although we had planned to spend 10 days here, we left after 3. The island was hit quite badly by storms and floods, which was part of the reason for leaving early, but this hotel was really rather poor. The staff were miserable and hardly spoke, the bungalow was a room with a bed (with grubby sheets), a wardrobe, and the most awful bathroom (a shower and a toilet sharing the same space, neither particularly clean). The day before we left the cleaner took away the towels and didn't leave any clean ones. We were glad to leave early.

Very nice hotel. The hotel is away from the crowd. We had a standard bungalow which was ok. The beachfront bungalows are probably the best one. Good beachside restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moonhut. The AC bungalow was perfect - cleaned daily, comfortable and the location was brilliant. The staff were always very welcoming and very helpful. We hired a jeep from them which was perfect for us and gave us the freedom we wanted. The beach there was one of the best on the island. Food at Moonhut was always nice - they did the best spring rolls and banana fritters in Thailand - anywhere else on the island and in Bangkok couldn't beat it. the rest of the food was always nice - we never had a bad meal there. I would definitely recommend Moonhut to anyone wanting a lovely place to stay with a quiet clean beach without rocks and good for swimming and there were no rowdy crowds, but at the same time it was not a dead place either. I would also like to say thanks to Moonhut for saving our day when our transport to the airport never turned up - they organised us a taxi in a flash. Excellent accommodation and service which we would definitely use again. I normally go 4* on holidays, but this was really good value for money and definitely up to standard - the pics on the website do not lie - you get what you see in the pics.

Perfect. We stayed in the Bungalows with fan for only THB 500. Basic room with fan, very clean, good bed.Towels have been changed every day, room cleaned every day. The garden is very beatiful and the restaurant has good food, good choice of breakfast and thai food. Very quiet location, you can still experience the nature of Kosamui. The beach is very clean and quiet with very nice view. Staff very friendly and always available. Try a massage just at the beach, where Kwan and her cousines will treat you with a good massage and a very warm welcome. The main road is just a few minutes away where you can get taxis to Chaweng..only 15 minutes away. Try the Thai restaurants in the nearby village where you can still eat for only THB 50. Moonhut is a real nice place to spend the holiday. We have seen other places and looked at other accomodations in Chaweng and Lamai as well as in Maenam but Moonhut Bungalows has the best location. I can really recommend it and if it happens we would come back to Kosamui I will surely come to Moonhut again.

Very friendly staff but not very helpful manager who seemed more interested in his speedboat. Pretty dismal kitchen, not recommended. First of all, we think that it is really nice to rent a bungolow there. Because, the bungolows are really nice and clean (our bungalow (with AC) get cleaned every day), just a few steps to a very good swimming beach, nice people, good food and there are severeral restaurant along the beach. All in all it was a really nice and cheap stay, thus we would go there again if we go to Koh Samui next time.

A first sight it looks amazing. The bungalows are nice, and the restaurant and beach-bar looks great. But staying there more than 5 minutes you find out that it is NOT so. We had no hot water, even though we complained ( after that it worked for 2 hours and then again no hot water). The restaurant is rather expencive and the food not really that tasty, and the waiting time....25 minutes for sandwich or snack is normal. The beach-bar has a perfect location just at the beach but not really fair prices and it closes at 10 o clock, even that we were 9 people who sat quitly talking and would like a drink or two more!! The place looks great on the web site (and in reallity) but it´s not worth the money, will never use it again.

Nice and cheap hotel, were staying togather with my wife during 12 days. Cleaning every day, but one time they trashed during cleaning one important receipt (it was on the table, not in the trash can) which we planned to use. So, hide all important things before going to the beach :) Restaurant is a bit expensive, but you can walk to the left or right on the beach and find many others. You can also rent a bike (150 BAT/day, do not forget a helmet) or a car on the reception. Be very careful when driving in Thailand, it is very easy to fall down from the bike, there are often sand on the road.

Great resort! Stayed in a fan bungalow at 500 baht/night - excellent value. Nice staff, good for families or couples. Friendly staff on a quiet section of beach. Water gets deep quickly with no coral, so excellent for swimming. Food was average, but they have real coffee (not instant). There are a couple of very outgoing golden retrievers as well as a german shepherd that live there, so if you don't like dogs you may want to explore other options.

We arrived a day earlier in Samui and I rang Alister who runs and owns Moonhut Bungalows to see if we could have an extra day because of this mistake in our travel itinerary, and it was no problem what so ever.So after booking in, we kicked off our shoes and just relaxed for the rest of our stay of 5 days. The place is well run the staff are friendly and very helpfull. The bungalows are clean and neat the towels are changed daily and the food is fantastic as is their bar and the girl who makes the cocktails. The only little thing that was wrong was the mattresses on the bed were very hard. But the place is set in a beautiful setting right on the beach. You can hear the sea lapping up on the sand at night after everything has died down. You only have to walk a few yards and you are in the water. You re able to sit in chairs on the beach and drink you cool drinks watching the sun go down, or get a massage from the people next door right on the beach. Moonhut is set back off the main road a little way but not so far that you can't walk it. They hire motorbikes also. All in all I would not hesitate to return there, and only hope that we do one day.. So if you need somewhere to unwind it's just the spot. It is more suited towards families with young children and older people. That is why it is nice and quiet.Well done Moonhut. Hope to visit again soon. Mrs.Pryor
