THE HISTORY OF THE BOAT SUITES
For many years now tourists have chosen The Imperial Boat House Beach Resort as the ideal destination to spend an exotic tropical holiday in Thailand. One of the reasons for this is the unique concept of the hotel with its strong nautical theme and most notably, the thirty-four authentic rice barges. These were once fully functional river barges that operated along Thailand's famous Chao Phraya River or River of Kings.
As you may well know the old name for Thailand was the Kingdom of Siam,
a name synonymous with the spice trade made famous by such people as
Marco Polo. The principal means of transport in those days was by water
and so expansive were the waterways in the capital, that it was once
known as the Venice of the East. With the abundance of teak in Thailand
at that time and the many qualities of this wood, it was the natural
choice for the construction of the rice barges and continued to be so
up to recent times. Thirty-four of these working boats were transported
across the Gulf of Thailand to the island of Samui to take up residence
at The Imperial Boat House Beach Resort. Never having been sailed on
seawater before, the journey took its toll on these natural treasures
and painstaking restoration was required. After the exterior had been
completed work began on converting the barges into luxury suites.
The great attraction of the boat suites is their rich heritage and their natural wooden construction, indeed they are the only ones of their kind in the world today! The antiquity of the barges and their colorful history are interwoven with the unique experience of staying in these suites. You might encounter this during your stay, as the barges may creek from the slightest movements in the wood, caused by changes in temperature and humidity. At times they may even smell a little, due to the effects of years of transporting rice to various destinations along the River of Kings, which has engrained itself into the teak wood exterior of the barge. Each rice barge is a porthole to a bygone age, and we hope that these rare disturbances will not prove too troublesome, but conversely, will heighten your appreciation of the unrivaled experience of staying in a boat suite during your holiday on beautiful Koh Samui.

Accommodation and facilities:
The Choeng Mon Beach is a little bit overcrowded with 4-row sun beds and lots of people in the nearest hotel. If you seek some intimacy and isolation this is not the right place. The hotel is very big and privacy can be hardly obtained during the day. As for the out-of-beach activities/evening outings this is a very good choice: the nearby walking street provides you with everything you might need (cheap massage starting from 250 Bahts, cafes and restaurants as well as some souvenir shops and family marts with cheap beer (30 Bahts vs 120 Bahts for Singha in the hotel). If you seek some nightlife activities or a stronger shopping spree Chaweng is 10 minutes away by bike (200 Bahts per day if taken in the walking street).

Accommodation and facilities:
I m afraid, out of the 5 hotels we selected,on our 4th trip, Imperial does come last!! The grading 3 should not say value for money -that is very deceptive and medium is more appropriate. We felt entirely ripped off for what we recieved.Choeng Mon is a lovely setting but out of all 5 beaches, certainly doesn't justify the price. We asked for a Pool View suite which at around 600Othb with a snippet of a pool view,is a total disgrace. One could have selected a characterful boat cabin WITH a seaview at 8000THB per night. I was so confused by the standard of room facilities, I actually enquired at reception whether they hadn't possibly made a mistake. The unfriendly reception staff didn't seem to be too sympathetic and informed me that of the 135 suites,we were in one of 7 select suites!Do yourself a favour by asking for a higher room with NO pool view. That way you might get a glimpse of the sea and in fact pay less for the lack of the pool view!!????? The restaurant staff were however far friendlier, unfortunate that they aren't the welcoming bunch where the first impression is set!!! Imperial does however have some nice facilities like a gym, large boat pool and a lovely small safe beach where one doesn't have to wade far out till shoulder height. There is a lovely casual restaurant/cafe called Orchid Cafe, on the Main Road to the right about 100m down opposite Family Mart, that in fact help make up for the overcharging and left us feeling happy to have explored the area. I think my opinion would be far different if we had paid half the price for what we got but unfortunately I feel done in!This is by no means PRIME Koh Samui, through 4 years of visiting it's unfortunate that a foreigner has to ditstinguish between worth it with ALL the bells and whistles and something so standard that costs so much more. Good luck, we'll definitely be back to the area and beach but certainly not Imperial Boat House!

Rooms very good and clean, good variety in complex, AC not work great but enough to keep it just about right. Reception and greeting very good, they even organised a car and booking to the local hospital when girlfriend felt poorly and had a fresh bowl of fruit next day with a get well card, nice touch from the staff and management. Highly recommend. The Boat villas look amazing and very original.

We spent a wonderful holiday at Imperial Boat House Hotel. The hotel is situated on the most beautiful, comfortable and calm beach of Samui. We really enjoyed our staying. The building of the hotel is very nice, rooms are comfortable and clean. The air-conditioner works excellently. The bathroom is big and nice too. The balcony (we lived in Premier room) is spacious. The territory of the hotel is very beautiful and full of greenery. There are a lot of chaises longues around two swimming pools and on the beach. The beach is perfect. The water is really hot, very clean. The sea is calm, without big waves. The bottom of the sea is sandy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of restaurants near the hotel. You can find them right on the beach or walking 5 minutes away from the hotel, on the street. It's easy to get to Chaweng. We rented a car during our staying, so it took us about 10 minutes to get to Chaweng. I recommend the Imperial Boat House as the best place of spending your holiday. We re going to stay at the Imperial Boat next time.

Hotel with a nice atmosphere, a very nice staff. The boats need some renovation soon, but we liked them very much, except for the beds that was like sleeping on the flore, very hard. The brekfast and all the food at the hotel vas very good, but the Chalee restaurang on the small street on the right side of the hotell had the most exelent food and we recommend all to visit this retaurang. We had our dinner at Chalee 5 times during our 2 week stay att the boat house.

What a lovely welcome, with a cold fresh drink and a cold lemongrass smelling flanel to refresh our skin after long our journey! Rooms were nice and clean and kept well or the 2 weeks we were there. Free bottled water given to brush teeth with were a good help as we used it to drink from during the day around the pool or beach. Pools were a little tatty looking although still welcoming so warm almost bath water temperature! Fantastic spot to be in on the beach and thankfully not as busy mad and blowy as Chaweng Beach. Pretty perfect flowers everywhere made a topic of conversation every day ideal to wear in ones hair! Breakfast was plentiful and you could have eggs cooked fresh by every way possible, fried, scrambled, boiled or omeleted. We would love to go again and we would request the same rooms (Premier pool/terrace ground floor} The rice boat accomodation gave a Thai feel and character but felts they would possibly be a bit warm and stuffy although may not be! Thanks to all the staff as nothing was too much trouble. SIAMESERVICESCARR x

we stayed in premium room and were not disappointed. Rooms are spacious, immaculately cleaned and have more than adequate storage space for clothes etc. Breakfast varied. If you want more variety for the evenings it's very near to Chaweng - you can book the hotel shuttle in and get a tuk tuk back or as we did, rent a moped which is very economical. A great place - we will be back !

We were a family of four and rated the Hotel most highly on everything. It really was a most enjoyable stay, although we were only there for three nights. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. As a family that wanted a bit of an up-market hotel and away from the normal tourist hotels - we were most happy. We would gladly go back.
Reservation service:
Vert good - quick respeonse and everything was in order as arranged.

We have booked after an extensive search in the internet for a suitable place for a family with small children (we have a 1.5 year old girl). The hotel met our expectations and more. We booked for 5 days and extended two times for 4 nights every time. The staff is very friendly especially to children. The pool (boat) has a big children's pool and the beach is beautiful. The atmosphere on the beach is perfect for families and the sand is soft and clean. We have booked for the special prices and we think that it is an excellent value for money. The regular prices are thought, to high where as the rooms needs to be refurbished. Nevertheless, we recommend the hotel and we will be happy to come back there.

Prior to booking at the Imperial Boat House Hotel I did a lot of research on various hotels on Koh Samui. My parameters were to find a hotel not that far away from Chaweng with good hotel transport to Chaweng. Also we wanted an apartment above ground level as a lot of people complained at other hotels re lizards and bugs etc.We booked a Premier Room at the Boat House and the room was excellent. There was a separate shower as well as a full bath. The breakfast was excellent and the beach was very clean with excellent sand and not stone as in some other areas. Our booking through the internet was flawless and my wife and I have no hesitation in recommending the Imperial Boat House hotel.

I was very pleased with my choice - always a bit worrying when you book online - but no complaints. The hotel and surrounds were lovely, food was good too. Clean rooms and helpful staff. My biggest disappointment was with what's happened to Koh Samui itself - lots of trash lying around, such a shame.

Lovely hotel and grounds. We stayed in a poolside terrace room- this was ideal as was ground level. The rom was clean and comfortable. fresh towels daily and everything you would expect down to razor kit, sewing kit etc. 2 free bottles of water daily. fresh fruit daily. breakfast was brilliant- lots to choose from. Main restaurant was excellent although more expensive than restaurants along the beach, although some of those event hough they looked a bit dodgy the food was ok. Staff and service excellent- all very helpful outside the hotel there is nothing much to do or see though and its a bit like beirut before or after the bombing.there is a free shuttle bus to the main town (free in day but small fee in the evening)this town , chewang i think it was called was just one long road full of shops with trinkets etc for sale. we did have a good time thoough- it was our wedding anniversary during the week and the hotel made us a cake- how sweet!!

Thanks to Boat House and SiameServices, we all had a great time. Especially our 14-month-old son loved the beach. Staff is extremely friendly and ready to help 24/7. Great landscape. We originally booked for 3 nights but then extended it to a week. Honeymoon suit was spacious and comfortable. Only negative issue were the mosquitos. Breakfast was rich in choises. Beach resataurant was good but pricy, so we tried other restaurants nearby, or went easily to Chaweng with shuttle of the hotel.

We got back from IBH last week and had a wonderful holiday. The hotel is excellent: great location, delicious buffet breakfast, clean rooms, spacious bathrooms (we were not staying in a boathouse, bathrooms look smaller in them), friendly staff, great swimmingpools, great beach (no rocks in the sea in front of the beach) and acceptable beach sofa's and umbrella s. The restaurant is maybe a little disapointing, but there are great alternatives on the beach in restaurants next door. With regards to the noise from the nearby construction site: it was never a disturbing factor for us, definitely not at night (noise of the airco filters out the noise from outside), just ask for a room away from the construction site.

We have just arrived home from our honeymoon in the South of Thailand. We stayed at the Imperial Boathouse for 3 nights. The first 2 nights were before travelling to Koh Tao and the last night was upon our return from Koh Tao. The first two nights were great. We were greeted by Pla and she was exceptional. She spoke fairly clear english and always understood our questions. She was our go to girl for booking tours, transport and anything we needed! We were upgraded from a Deluxe to a Premier room because it was our honeymoon. We had a large bath (which was cold before it actually filled up) and a seperate shower. Overall we were very pleased with the room, the service and the hotel as a whole. We really enjoyed the time in Samui and were excited about the fact we were returning in a few days. The last night we were there we were put in a deluxe room which faced the construction happening next door, which was very noisy. In addition, the room had a joint bath/shower with one of those hand held showers. The water pressure would continually change while you were trying to shower. We complained so they went to move us into another deluxe room which had 2 single beds and still faced the construction! We complained again and were then moved to a pool terrace room. It was away from the construction but still had hand held shower. The water pressure was normal so it was better then the first 2 rooms! We were quite excited about the fact we would see Pla again but it was her day off. We were disappointed but obivously understood she deserves a day off! It just felt like we were in a different place without her. Would probably stay there again )but insist a room away from construction and book premier room)

SiamWebHosting were perfect. We booked a number of hotels and arranged transport through the site and the travelling was smooth sailing. No complaints.

We had a nice stay at this hotel, We had a pool side room which was very clean and had a very nice patio, all cleaned on daily basis. A complimentary fruit platter is also provided daily. Staff is generally nice, swimming pool and beach are good for children. Breakfast was very generous and Food served in the restaurant was very good however an additional 10% service and 7% tax is charged on the total making this the most expensive place on the beach. We tried few places in the adjacent resorts where we also had good food at a fraction of the price. A free shuttle service to Chaweng is offered 3 times a day, charges applies at other times. A new resort is been built next door and some tolerable noise can be heard at times and a big crane is visible from the pool. Overall very good for couples perhaps more activities to entertaining children would make this place perfect.

The hotel is very nice and the staff is friendly. Good location on a quiet beach. Just a short ride to Chaweng and shopping. The restaurant serves good european food, but if you want to eat Thai food you can get the same food for half the price on one of the restaurants on the beach. We came to Koh Samui after spending one week on Koh Tao. We wanted to continue diving on Koh Samui, however the dive trips from Koh Samui is by speed boat up to Koh Tao - so if you want to dive travel to Koh Tao - not Koh Samui.

The hotel was generally good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the diving shop was excellent. However we did have some problems that took a little of the shine of the stay. First, was the construction site next door of which we were not advised before booking. The construction was noisey and if you made use of the beach side massage (an excellent little service) the building they are located withn actually shook. Secondly the A/C leaked on our first night and left a puddle in the middle of the floor, however to the hotels credit it was repaired within an hour. Thirdly if your airport pick up is later than the check out time you can book a shower room. Unfortunately the A/C in the shower room we were allocated did not work and we ended up having a sauna. In summarry this is a good hotel which is a bit old and needs a soft refurbishment and will be a lot better of when the construction next door is finished.
Reservation service:
Booking service was good and efficient but should have advised of the construction before the booking was completed.

An excellent hotel with all that you can wish for! Beautiful place on a quiet, white-sandy beach, very friendly staff who love children, good food, excellent rooms, nice, big swimmingpools and walking distance to other good restaurants on the beach. A good base for exploring the island and taking daytrips to the surrounding islands. Can be recomended to people of all ages, with or without children.
