Accommodation and facilities:
We really enjoyed our stay at the first residence. The rooms are naturally not first class but the value for money is very good. Everything was clean and the staff is very friendly.We didn´t have breakfast, so don´t know if it´s good. Swimmingpool is a little small, but we used the big one called chaweng beach tht´s located at a 5min. walk. Surrounding here is very quiet and relaxed. Take a bus (50bath) to the beachfront-street and you´ll find many restaurants bars etc. First residence is really value for money (booked via internet it´s cheaper ;-)

Ett prisvärt hotell med bra frukostuffé, bra service och rena och fräscha rum. Poolen ligger i skuggan vilket vi tyckte var skönt. Runtomkring hotellet finns en del restauranger där man kan äta bra mat för en bllig peng. Chaweng beach ligger ungefär 15 minuters promenad därifrån. Ca 10 minuter till det stora shopping stråket. Nackdelen är att längre upp på gatan är ett tillhåll för prostituerade....Vi undevek helt enkelt det hållet.

A pretty good hotel - the room was nice and the service was okay. The breakfast was a bit boring, but the staff were making fresh omelets, fried eggs etc., which was great! The hotel is located a few minutes walk from Chaweng Road (city), but to be where it really happens , you need to walk about 15 minutes. A tuk-tuk only costs 100 Baht per way, so that´s an option. The pool area is okay, but there is only very little sun and only a few sunbeds available.

Budget luxury, very nice rooms and balcony. We really liked it. Good price for such comfort. Very friendly staff who spoke quite good english. The only negative thing about the room was that we had ants, but the hotel gave us bugspray. Food had to be kept in refrigerator. Poolarea is very nice, but the times we spent there we had no sun.

I stayed here for around 10 day or so. The hotel is verry nice, food was not good and there was not realy any breakfast that I paid for. When I asked for breakfast the staff wern't nice at all, if I wanted pinapple juce (more than 1) they seemed verry angry. No one at reception couldn't speak any english at all. Even though I can speak sum Thai it was a major problem. So myself and a german girl I met there went around the corner to Lucky House. Beautiful bungalows half the price the owner Jo Jo realy realy looked after us and I would recomend it to anyone. Only thing is no pool, but the beach is like a 5 min walk.

Хороший новый отель, очень уютный, удобное расположение как к центру чавенга - минут 15 пешком, так и к пляжу - 10 минут, только до пляжа не очень приятная дорожка будет,но для кого важнее экономия и в этом отеле не более 5-6 дней, никакого дискомфорта не будет, но кто подольше лучше поближе к пляже. На завтраке практически есть нечего, тосты, кофе и омлет, если вам достатточно то ок, если вставать ради завтрака до 10 утра сложно, рекомендую напротив через дорогу есть итальянская пицерия, очень вкусный круасаны большие по 40 Бат, также можете позавтракать пиццей, сендвичами там.

Good hotel, 7 minute walk to the southern most part of Chewang beach. Hotel is off the beaten path but provided good location to use as a base. No problems- clean but some rooms could be noisy if they face the street noise. Pool is right beside street so very noisy.

Good location, very friendly staff, rooms are clean and spacy with a real (a table with two chairs) balcony. One drawback though -- unpleasant smell in the bathroom. Overall impression -- very good hotel in terms of price per value. I would definitely stay there again or recommend to friends.

It was a very clean hotel with nice staff and in a good area. A walk to the beach by 3-4 minutes. Extra plus is that we have acces to First House hotel and their pool (and WC) next to the beach because they have the same owner. Located a bit from centrum but it only takes 10-15 minutes to go (or 150 bath by taxi). By reason of that it was calm and quite. One thing was negative and it was that the staff was very bad of understand english.

I checked the reviews on this hotel prior to booking and like many the negatives stand out more than the positives. I d like to challenge some of the negatives first before making a negative comment my self having spent one week at the First Residence. First off, I read that the pool never gets the sun due to the position of the building and thus is cold. Well I can say that in early September the sun starts hitting the pool at 9am and by 10am is full on the pool and remains there until it disapears behind the hills around 5pm. The pool is cool and when the air temp is around 35c this is a blessing to have. I read somewhere that the toilet/bathroom was smelly. This was not the case for me. Note there is a switch by the main door to turn the bathroom fan on and off when needed! Air con in the room was not smelly (if it was i d have asked for it to be repaired) but it was a bit on the loud side. The staff are helpful but do struggle with their english. Reception has cctv coverage of all floors and when coming down stairs with a heavy bag the bell boy ran up to meet me to carry my bag. No language needed for that type of service. Room was clean, bedding was clean, balcony was clean, really no complaints about the room or the hotel in general. My negative comment is not about the hotel, the staff or even the location. It is about the locals and their noise. Taxi/busses that pip at everyone that is walking as they try to get a fare; Advertising vehicles with blaring music and constant booming voice about Mau Tah at the local Chaweng stadium; and scooters with broken silencers/mufflers. But this did not bother me in the hotel room only at the pool or walking into town. I asked for a quiet sea view room and I got exactly that. I could only just hear this noise when out on the balcony. I recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quieter hotel away from the party end of Chaweng beach with all music, traffic and crowd noise. Transport via taxi or taxi bike is easy to get and will not cost much. Taxi bike from one end to the other was only 40-50Baht (£1)

The hotel was wonderful. Nice, big enough rooms and very clean. It is situated just a bit outside from Chaweng, we liked that very much, it is quiet during the day and evenings. We rented a motorbike and went by motorbike to the beach and the center. Taxis are also coming by all day long. The pool is very nice, breakfast could be a little better but was good enough for me and my family. We missed the yogurt ;-) When we go back to Koh Samui we surely will stay at The First Residence again.

this hotel is in the end of chaweng. to chaweng center by foot is not a problem. We stayed here for first night since we arrived Samui in the everning. It's really worth of money. Big room wz bathtube and balcony. However,be aware of ants. They attack any food unsealed.

First of all, I have to say I loved this hotel ! Great deal for the money - beautiful, quiet and immaculately clean. The only negative comment I have is in regards to the staff at reception, as I did not find them overly helpful. In regards to the distance to the heart of the Chaweng Beach, if you are walking, it will take you a heck of a lot longer than 10 minutes. More like 45minutes to the heart of Chaweng, as the hotel is at the very end of it... it will take longer if you stop to talk to every tailor and shop owner that asks for your attention. Better off than walking is renting a scooter for 150-200 baht a day, just don't crash it and make sure to know what scratches are already on it. Otherwise, hiring a taxi / moped will cost you more than renting a motorbike. Overall, loved the hotel and would highly recommend it.

The hotel was fab, it was so much better than we had expected especially for the price we paid. The location was perfect for us - very central (walking distance to the nice side of the beach & the shops/bars/restaurants) The hotel was clean and modern but it was the staff that made our stay one to remember - all the staff are so friendly and helpful and we will definitely be going back!

Very nice peaceful hotel with clean rooms and good breakfast. The swimming pool is great along with it's jacuzzi. A big bonus is free internet usage for the guests. The staff understands and speaks good English and very friendly. Slightly on the downside is the inconsistent water pressure and temperature of the shower in your room. There's also no eletric kettle if you re thinking of making a hot drink by yourself. Overall, it's worth the money you paid for.

The hotel was brilliant. Very clean, modern and quiet. Only flaw is the location of the pool. It never seemed to get the sun at all because the hotel building is in the way. This meant the water in the pool is always cold. Overall a 8 out of 10 for a budget boutique hotel. I will definitely go back there again
