We found the bungalow charming with quality decor and a view of the sea. The service was excellent. The resort is on a pretty bay, but a little far from the main beach on the island which has a wider choice of cheaper eating options. Highly recommended all the same.

Was I in a dream?? This place was AMAZING. My boyfriend and I spent two days here after a few days of being in Bangkok and it was such a nice vacation from our vacation. The service is impeccable. The food was great. The ocean was clear as day. I mean, really it was perfect. I have ZERO bad comments.

This Beach is beautiful, superb location, but the resort itself is overpriced and not comparable with any which I saw in Thailand for rate 5000THB/per night. If you can have it for less then 3000, you can think about it, in other case forget about it. Why? Rooms are very dark (there is no enough light inside), a lot of stairs in upper rooms, mosquitos/flies was a nightmare, you cannot seat a while on your terrace - it's useless even during the day. Pool is small and water is strange (non-transparent), looks dirty. The prices in the resort are not doubled, as you can expect in isolated beach, but 4 times higher then in the main village. Generally comment about Koh Samed, island is a little bid dirty in comparison with other islands in Thailand, Ao Prao beach is cleaned by the stuff daily, but this help only for a while, after some time rubbish come again from the sea. I never saw such dirty place in Thailand, it's sad :-(

Ao Prao resort is one of the more expnsive beaches on Samet & it isn't justified. The room was old but reasonably clean. Breakfast was just your standard thai breakfast buffet. To do any of the water sports it was ridiculously expensive. Only good thing is thatbecause there are only the 2 resorts on the same beach, there aren't too many people around. Better off staying on sai kaew beach where the beach is better, more accom choices & there are plenty of reastaurants.

The hotel was great!! Good room. good views, good restaurant, very pleasant staff. But be aware that you are in a luxury enclave - the rest of the island is drowning in garbage, overcrowded an in case of a short but heavy rain shower a huge mudhole. Even authorities have become aware of that problem! No need to hire a scooter for driving around - you will be disappointed!

The hotel is made of several little houses that have a wonderfull view on the sea, which is only 20 meters from your porch. The prices for food and drinks are above what you are used to in Thailand, but there are enough other places you can go to that are cheaper. Service is very good and flexible; by mistake we booked the wrong dates but when we arrived one week early they made no big deal of it and offered us the same accomodation.

The room is not as luxury as I thought it would be but it is not that terrible. The bathroom could need remodeling. I enjoy the location of the beach because it is not as crowded and scenery is great. The draw back to this is that there are only few restaurants around and the price for the meal is little more expensive.

Don't stay here!!!! We did not have a very good stay at this hotel. The location is excellent but the service was very bad. Our original room was good but there was an animal in the roof (lizards or rat) which stopped us sleeping at night. I informed reception and they said they would check it out, but they did nothing. Later that day the animal was still making noise and I called reception again. Eventually somebody came and reluctantly agreed to move us to another room. This room was appalling. It was dark and dingy and the bed was broken. Again I complained to reception and eventually they agreed to move us to another room which was an upgrade for one night. This had been available all the time but they did not want to give it to us as it was a higher grade than the room we had originally booked. For the remaining two nights we got a room that was similar to the original one we had minus the animals in the roof. When we tried the shower in this it did not work. Again we called reception and they sent a maintenance person to fix it - which took about an hour. Overall, this resort is overpriced and focussed on getting as much money as possible from its clients rather than providing a good service. this is a pity as it is in a good location, but they seem to have lost track on what is important in a hotel - treating the guests well.

Ao Prao was a very relaxing hotel to stay in during the week, however, at the weekend, a large party arrived for a Karaoke night. We were asked to move away from the only shaded area of the pool to allow for the karaoke setup. This was a midday, despite the the singing not starting until 7pm! This was frustrating when you have a 15 month old child with you. The volume was far to high and kept us all awake until 11pm. My advise to those thinking of booking at Ao Prao, check first that there are no karaoke partys booked for the time you are there. It will ruin your holiday if there is.

This is probably our 8th visit to Ao Prao, but the first one in 2009. Did something change? I think so, the room seems to have gotten a new layer of paint, there were flower arrangements at the restaurant table, in general the service seems to have been turned up just a small notch. As always a great place to stay for a quiet time at the beach or by the pool. If you re at Koh Samet for the party, go to the other side of the island.

We stayed on this hotel in a beach bungalow for 8 nights. The beach bungalow is really nice. Sitting on the balcony with a cold drink enjoying the sunset is suberb. The resort is a bit more expensive than many other nice hotels on the island, but we got excellent service. All staff were nice and helpful. The food is really good, both for breakfast and the evening dinner in the restaurant. We can really recomend this hotell. But we also highly recommend that travellers to Koh Samet will walk around the island and enjoy other beaches as well. Some of the beaches on the east cost are really great! But if you go there then you will see and meet more of the persons that sell food, clothes and so on the beaches.

We have stayed in resort hotels all over Thailand . Ao Prao has one of the best beaches but the hotel needs to improve on its services. Housekeeping did not clean our room until 2 pm, although we left our room for breakfast at 8.30 am,and aside from picking up a couple of things, did not return until that time. The bathroom is badly designed in the delux cottage. Drainage is poor. The bathroom has a standing shower with no shower stall or curtain, which meant that evertime we took a shower , the whole bathroom floor got wet. The wash basin was semi-clogged and it took a while for the water to drain. There was adequate with very limited choices. We ve had better breakfast in all the resorts that we ve stayed in. Did not bother with the cut fruits except an orange or banana. Even with a cover over them, we could still see flies on the fruits. All in all, for the price we paid we could have stayed at a better run resort in either Koh Samui, Koh Chang , Hua Hin , Phuket, Krabi or Phi Phi. We ve been to them all.

A nice location with pleasant rooms. My first encounter at breakfast ended up with a complaint to the manager, food was out in the open with flies all over the place, the worst was the jams & marmalade, these were in large jars swarming with flies, also lots of dead ones in the spoon containers! not a nice sight, and due to that did not have one meal at the place, we went down to Lima coco which was half the price. It was not 4 star in my opinion, nice spot though!

I spent 3 days here.. Had a very nice bungalow and was very happy with the whole set up.. The sea and the beach were clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful... The seafood barbq was amazing, I recommend the Lobster with tamarind sauce!! Would come again!! Make sure you take advantage of the FREE speedboat service unlike me who took a ferry and a taxi!!

Love the Ao Prao Resort as usual, and the new pool is a nice addition. The only thing I have to complain about is the band playing during dinner. I m sorry to say that this performance is of a quality below your average karaoke evening, and more of an annoyance than a pleasure. Although some of the worst out of tune singing and lack of knowledge of the lyrics make it somewhat funny, it's mostly painful. It is also too loud, making conversation during dinner hard. Due to this we chose to have dinner at neighbouring Le Vimarn resort instead.

Excellent as ever, they were able to turn around just a couple of days before our departure and book the family room for us, which was not available at the time of our original booking.

The staff there was very nice and helpful. The beach was nice. BUT, with a 7 month old baby we had a room uphill what was not so convinient. Then they booked a family the room above us with 2 kinds they thought the room is a playground. Terrible sound all day long until late night. During breakfirst I got almost killed by the toaster because the cables were not isolated. All in all I have to say that I wont come back!

The beach is absolutely wonderful and the boat service organized by Samed Resorts group is excellent. The staff at Ao Prao Resort were very accomodating and helpful (switching us to a better room, for example). And they have just installed a great little horizon pool right by the beach. Food was also good. The only problem was the construction. I think other travellers should wait till it's finished (early Novemeber), because right now it's quite pervasive and disturbing. The resort is small, so the construction affects the entire property, regardless of what they say. There's construction equipment all over the place, construction workers everywhere, drilling noises well past 5 pm, etc. Many of the rooms and some common areas badly need renovation, so on the whole the construction is a good idea. It should be wonderful when they finish.

Renovations to hotel were not intrusive - work was on west wing only and east wing was fine. Rooms great for Thai style resort. Weather average as onshore winds prevail at this time of year. Experievce very good except for watersports service offered by Jimmy's Tours - life threatening banana boat experience which terrified teenagers - very poor. Have stayed there many times before and always enjoy, however ocean did seem to have increased litter.

Hotel was great, staff lovely very helpful and the food was OK, not overpriced considering. The chalets are adorable and super clean, the pool was being built as I stayed but the beach is a 2 second stroll and the sea was fine to swim in, I would definitely recommend and stay there again. I do wish they would lose the band that played the same songs on Fri and Sat night, I actually had to eat elsewhere as the dodgy singing got a bit too much! I would also hire quad bikes and not scooters as the roads aren't the best..

We stayed in a beach front cottage. The room was a top notch Thai bungalow, clean and comfortable. Service was good, staff friendly, no complaints. Unfortunately, there was a severe problem with the water quality at the beach - it smelt so bad that the staff were wearing face covers and you could not swim in the polution. I hope it was an algae bloom and nothing more sinister. Would stay again if looking for a really quite holiday and a guarantee that the water on the beach was clean.

I love this place, even in the rainy season, which it definitely was. We got a fantastic rate because it's the off-season and the hotel's pool was closed for construction (who cares when you ve got the whole ocean to swim in?) The only downer was that there was noticeably more trash on beach after the tides. We saw none of this two years ago (though the sea was perfectly calm then). I really love the little island and I hate to see become polluted.

The Hotel was OK but I decided to upgrade to the more up market resort just at the end of the beach Le Vimarn. This was expensive, but in my mind still value. I will go back, but have to say the dissappointment was not the hotels but the quality of the sea water. 3 years ago it was crystal clear, now it is cloudy and going exactly the same way as I have seen the main lagoon in Koh Samui. When will Thailand learn that a sustainable future is in policing developments and maintaining the environment, not poluting pristine environments with get rich quick developments and then looking for the next place to destroy.

Tropical paridise. Had a garden cottage with view of water. Very basic but extremely comfortable. Staff was very accomodating. There is a really nice restaurant one hotel down; food is excellent. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the rustic, romantic quality of the cottages. The beach is not large but there are not a lot of people so you feel there's plenty of room. Just watch the waves. Get a $10 massage for an hour. Time stands still. Be sure to visit the other side of the island and eat at Ploy on the beach.

It was the worst resort I visit since the time I started to spent my holidays in Thailand. It was my fifth time in Thailand. From outside it look like a paradise, but my room 405, was poorly maintained, had signs of infiltration on the walls and ceiling. My first encounter in the room was with a cockroach when I try to use the lavatory. Behind the bed there was a small wall made of hood, and inside had rats and I clearly could ear their noises. We talked with the employee who cleans the room and it only smile. The air conditioning was noisy and cleaning was bad. The dust near the bed has been clean in 4 nights only on visible areas. The spider web near the mirror in the toilet has there since we check in until the day of the check out. The ants circulated throughout all room hand and even slug was found going up the walls of the toilet after take a walk true the bath towel. If you like rural tourism, it is worth going for it. The staff was nice and kind.

This time we went home by speedboat instead of using the normal shuttle provided by the resort, which opened our eyes for the possibility to travel ourside the restricted hours of the resort shuttle.

Very nice hotel, with good service and nice beach. We stayed in a beach front cottage, which was very nice, because of the fantastic view and the privacy. The hotel is placed on a remote corner of the island, where there is only 3 other hotels. This makes the area very nice and quiet, and the beach private for the hotel guests. The morning buffet was exellent and the restaurent ok - the only negative thing is that the prices at the hotel are very high compered to the rest of Thailand. It is a very good idea to use the facilities of the hotel next door Lima Coco . The hotel it self is the samt price as Ao Proa but not as nice, but the food and drinks are much cheaper, and they arrange very good boat trips at nice prices.
