Accommodation and facilities:
My overall comment....it was o.k. In consideration of the price we paid we couldn't expect a 5 stars location. Rooms are getting a bit long in the tooth. Breakfast was o.k. and really enjoyable compared to other more expensive hotels in Udon Thani. Friendly stuff.

Had a very comfortable stay in this hotel. It is not in middle of the tourist action but easy to get to everything. Swimming pool was clean, breakfast buffet had western and thai style food. Staff was helpful and all spoke a little english. Internet service in the room was 100 bhat for 24hours but intermittent and weak if working at all. No strength for skype. The lobby service is better 50 bhat for an hour but the logoff sequence was longwinded and the hour could be wasted if not logged off between uses. Lots of karaoke!

Some food at the breakfast buffet was often cold (eggs, etc.). It should be cooked as it is ordered, or a better method to keep it warm should be found. No English language news on TV. TV reception on some channels was very poor (unwatchable). Everything else was okay.

This hotel is geared to Thai market and very little English spoken so not geared to Europeans of which I was one of possibly 2. Hotel looks great from outside with nice gardens but once in it's old fashioned and has an unusual smells though not bad. The bedrooms are generous enough and they have European TV channels. Breakfast is appalling and staffing is very limited and lack of information; some mornings I could just get toast and when Thai groups are in, forget it. Wi-fi in rooms is shaky and costs. Reasonable location with tuk tuks and buses outside so good as a couple of nights but for long stay, forget food quality and service in the restaurant. Amazingly, they seem to have a shop dedicated to wines and a coffee shop that is rarely staffed. The swimming pool cannot be accessed by rooms or lift as it it is outside and often used by local children.

Nice looking place, but a bit far from city center. Breakfast buffet Ok, but nothing special. Very spacious room, 2 easy chairs, but no TV news channels in English. Comfortable bed. The room given was on the top floor (10) right under the a/c chillers. Far too much noise and vibration. Reception changed to floor 8 without any fuss.

This hotel is better suited to Thai guests. The staff do not seem to have experience with foreigners. It looks HI SO on the outside and in the the lobby but very sub standard where it counts in the room and bathroom was ancient. The swimming pool featured so beautifully on the internet did not have any water in it and was badly decaying. Breakfast was quite unpalatable. On the way back through Udon after the Naga Festival in Nong Khai, we stayed at a guesthouse for a 1/4 of the price in a better location and better facilities without the HI SO Thai pretense........highly recommend Top Mansion

Room is spacious, clean. Spa is excellent, good price, staff is very friendly and polite. Front desk people are another story. They are not rude but yet not nice which is not Thai hopitality we have got usedt to. They never greet or say hello or even smile to us. Seem like they do not want to bother. So we talked to the manager, she appologized and told us these people are new and promise to train them more. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. Location is great, food is good but not sure if we wqnt to come back to this hotel!

this hotel is nice and clean and modern. The staff seems under pressure all the time and it shows on their faces. We ate there once at the coffee shop and was disappointed. It is under par for quality and selection. Over all, stay there but eat some where else.

Hotel was better than expected as I had read many negative comments. It's a older hotel but it is comfortable and quiet. Had a in-room safe. The showers and tubs could use and upgrade but gets the job done. The breakfast was just ok...beware the moskitos!!!

Avoid this place! I have visited Udon Thani several times but this was my first visit to the Ban Chiang Hotel. For 2 of our 3 days there was no hot water. Despite repeated requests nothing was done about it. The rooms are very dimly lit and need refurbishment. The Charoensri Grand is much better value for the money.

Location is a bit outside of the centre. In general I can recommend the hotel. It was my second stay and I will definitely stay there again.

I have stayed here before and will again. I find it a good value for the money. It is a higher end 3 Star facility. I also like it's location which is away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. You are surrounded by Thai culture yet afforded international accomodations.

Check in was easy as everything was already prepared in advance. Rooms were spacious enough and clean but the lihghtings were a bit too dim for my liking. What is lacking in the rooms are the absence of tid-bits and alcohol drinks in the fridge bearing in mind that alcoholic drinks cannot be bought at retail outlets after 12 mmidinight. Hotel ambience presentable but counter staff were unfriendly and sometimes bordering on the rude side as personally witnessed by me. Location is walking distance to the wet market and it would be interesting for foreigners to experience the lifestyle there. Overall, it is a nice hotel to saty in and I would stay there again on my next trip.

After staying here two years ago with no complaints I swas totally disgusted with the changes in this hotel. I booked two rooms and in one of these two rooms only two of the three lights were working, there was a leak in the ceiling which left a damp patch on the floor and the room safe did not work. To add to all this we were asked to leave half way through our stay so that the hotel could accomodate guests from a conference taking place there with the offer of priority booking if we wanted to stay there when the conference ended! Luckily we founded a better hotel nearby with no help from the hotel staff at a much lower rate. Needless to stay Ban Chaing Hotel will be off my list of places to stay in Udon Thani

We like the hotel and had a pleasant stay. The location was ideal because I like to walk around the market in the morning. Too bad that because of our meetings out, we did not have much time to enjoy other facilities. The most memorable part of our stay is the opportunity to sing old favourites accompanied by the pianist at the sitting lounge.

Booking service was ok, though I was initially uncertain whether it was bonafide. So I only booked for 3 nights thinking that I could probably extend another 2 nights later. Finally, my companions decided to check into another cheaper apartment for those 2 nights when the hotel refuse to extend at the same rate.

Very poor one of the worst hotels I and my wife have stayed in. The first room they offered us was generally dirty, had dirty water coming from the taps and torn sheets on the bed. The second room was cleaner but not good, the bedding OK and water clean but for two days we had no hot water for a shower in the morning. Generally the staff were poor and did not even communicate well in Thai. Would never stay there again.

This was not our first choice of hotel due to mixed reviews, but wewere offerred The Bang Chiang and took a chance. On reception he staff were friendly and attentive, our choice ofa non-smoking room was not available at short notice, due to a holiday weekend, but the allocated was fine and regularly sprayed with freshener so was fine. The breakfast range was, as previously reported, atad limited and cold, but the staff happily cooked fresh to order, you only had to ask. All in all, though it was not our first choice, we were totally satisfied with our stay, it was good value for money and we would stay agin.

Our first choice was not available, due to short notice and a holiday weekend, an alternative was quickly offerred and the booking process went smoothly.

This hotel appears very nice from the lobby and front desk although the woman at the front desk was bordering on rude and only one person had passable English. I know, it is my fault for not learning Thai before going. I would like to be able to say this hotel is simply old and tired and in need of some updating but that would be a lie. Nothing worked in the room. The lighting fixtures were broken, all of the buttons and controls in the bedside panel were smashed, clawed and non-functional. I could not control any of the broken lights or air conditioning. Fortunately the A/C did work and was stuck at a level perfect for my preference. For the most part the bathroom was serviceable although I thought I was going to lose it when I turned on the shower faucet and nothing but pure brown water came out. Not to worry, it clears up in a minute or two. The breakfast buffet is not very large nor are the choices varied much from day to day. I did notice the majority of people at breakfast are Thai. I have stayed at the Charoensri Grand Royal before and found it acceptable. European run lodges and rooms might be a better choice than the Ban Chiang.

Fourth time at the Ban Chiang - this time for 18 nights in a junior suite @1300 baht p/n. Cold buffet breakfasts, tired-looking romms and a sleepy atmosphere.Apart from the pool, there is nothing really exceptional about this hotel and we will definately stay elsewhere next time. We looked at the Karin hotel which has recently been refurbished and it was around 450 baht p/n for a twin/double and 1050 baht for a 2-bedroom suite.Worth considering.

In general quite good option for people going to Laos. Hotel located appxmtl. 1 km from the city center- so quite. Rooms - nothing special-but relevent to the price. Breakfast less than satisfactory. But in general- if you are in transit -I will stay there again.

The room was clean and the staff friendly, it is not in a central position which means being harrassed by tuk tuk drivers every time you leave the hotel. Like most large hotels it is mainly interested in business clients but overall it is a reasonable place to stay. The downside from me was i stayed 4 nights but were only given tickets for 1 free breakfast - charged 300 baht after that. They advertise as breakfast included.

nice hotel, get a free map at information desk. Local transportation (songtaew) is passing by the hotel and the two parallel streets, no need for expensive taxi drivers. Look for pickup service from airport. Room clean and nice decorated.

rooms need redecorating and lot better cleaning,couldnt fault facilities,really enjoyed stay there and staff in resturant and kareoke bar downstairs excellent in service and friendliness,language no problem,after three week stay actually found staff member who knew where new zealand was!!!!DJ in kareoke bar!will be back soon!
