Very nice and friendly staff, always helpful. Good choice at breakfast. always clean swimming pool. Very good food in pool restaurant and quite reasonable prices. Perfect location. Close to night market. Rooms are very neat and clean, value for money.

A fine hotel, the newer tower of 20 floors well constructed about 20 years ago. The guests are a good mix of Asian and European. It has a lovely old-world Lanna feel about it and in the lobby we admire the genuine quality of the marble, wood, chandeliers, very high celiling and exotic decoration. The staff are pleasant and charming. At the moment there are some signs of ‘wear and tear’, but Renovation of bedrooms is planned for May 2011. The location is excellent — near markets: night, anusarn and galare, also near river Ping - taxis, tuk-tuks and songtaews are always available. Our view from the 18th floor made us feel as if we were in a penthouse overlooking the river ping. The quiet carpeted rooms are large, with armchairs, coffee table, desk and chair. The beds are very comfortable, and sheets and pillowcases are of the highest quality Egyptian cotton. The airconditioning is quite silent and efficient. There is a fridge and TV, but only a few channels available (including BBC world). The bathroom is all in marble. Best of all — there is no irritating muzak! There are the usual bars, disco and restaurants, but these are not intrusive. There are plenty of restaurants outside but we dined a few times on the roof at the Blue Bat Barbecue - again, very good value and superb views of course. Breakfast quality is variable but plentiful; a fine variety of western and oriental food with good coffee and a fresh egg-making station. The service is reasonably efficient and the crockery has seen better days. By the pool there is a delightful seating area overlooking a well-kept water garden. All in all, an excellent hotel with good value for money and which we have been using for about 5 years.

All I can say is the room was adequate, even though it was one of the newly refurbished one’s. There is no safe in the room, and in this day and age going to reception for safe deposits should be a thing of the past. Tea and coffee making in the room is a bit of a joke, large kettle but only two sachets of coffee you’ll not use much water. Wi-Fi access is charged at 100 bht per hour don’t bother this is very expensive, go to a internet cafe or to one of the many cafes or bars that offer it free while you have a drink. Don’t book the hotel to pick you up, they charge 100 bht per person, the airport car service is only 120 bht per car and there all new cars.

Reasonably priced. Rooms in dire need of refurbishing. Lights in room are too dim. Cannot read in morning and evening. This hotel sometimes hosts large tour groups, making the buffet breakfast facility very crowded. The staff is pleasant and fluent in English.

The room itself was old and outdated and I stayed in the new tower, there was nothing special about it, which was a shame in 2005 when I stayed there I had a different experience and loved the room, which is why I came back. The facilities are good, and the staff were friendly, the location was great. I was on the 14th floor, and still could hear the disco down below at night. I believe I could have paid much less somewhere else, and had a better room. Next time I go back to Chiang Mai, I will probably stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the old building, not too spacious. We do not hear any noise from disco or bar. The best is the location, next to night bazaar. IF we planned for next year we should stray at the same hotel.

The hotel is ideally situated for the night bazar in a busy tourist part of town. The hotel staff were helpful and polite and the despite the overall downturn in tourism it was still very busy and popular. The whole hotel is a little tired and could do with redecoration but, having said that, it was not run down, was clean and had good facilities.

Generally the hotel is clean and nice though it look a bit old. I am not sure if they have given me the new building or old building because I remembered I saw from the reviews here that the new building is better as it will not be as noisy as the old building. When I booked, I have requested for the new building, however, during the night before the Disco is closed, I can hear the music from the Disco (I m staying at the 7th floor). Other than that, the staffs there were nice, ops before I forget, they have timing for the hot water for shower. It's from 4pm till next morning 10am. But it was fine with us as we were out during the day. The only bad point was on our first day, there is a power failure that last for about 1 hour in the middle of the night. It was stuffy as the windows were locked due to security and safety reason. I will go there again, but will ask for a higher floor :)

This was our first stay at Pornping Tower and we will definitely come again. We were disappointed there was no safe in the room and laptops don't fit in the safe behind the front desk. The breakfast was just ok, limited selection but fine. What was so great was the location. At night they open the back gate and you can simply walk right into the night market and see and listen to Thai dancing and music, shop, etc. It is within easy walking distance to many restaurants. We easily walked to Starbucks and the kids enjoyed the Bananaroti stand in the night market. THe rooms were clean and comfortable, though not huge. They were a bit dated. Easy parking for us as we drove our car. Overall, we were very pleased with the value for the baht because of the location. Staff pleasant, too!

First impressions of the Porn Ping were very good. Flash lobby, very clean entrance, professional service etc. However once in the room it was noticable that this hotel is old and really the time has come for a renovation.(I am not sure if this is planned or not!) Apart from that the Porn Ping offers excellent views of Chiang Mai, excellent location (walk everywhere) and good bars (hotshots)etc. I would stay here again.

To start - I d like to say that we eventually enjoyed our stay at the Pornping hotel and would not mind staying there again. The GOOD: A few steps away from the ChiangMai night bazaar for the evening shopping and dining forays. Tour office that works with the hotel was very helpful Breakfast was good and the staff was very nice The room although very old, was still clean. Staff was helpful The BAD: The Pornping has two wings, the old wing (6 floors) and the new wing - in the tower which is much newer. Sadly - it is not clear that rooms are in the old rooms. The first room we received was not very nice, but we managed to get a different room with a double bed, which was ok.

The Pornping is lokated verry close to the nightmarket,2 min walk. Al people working at pornping is verry helpfully and nice. The room is ordinary, but no balcony. I feel realaxing in the breakfast buffe.And they have omelett, boild or frid eggs,fresh fruit,milk flakes .... I can recomends this hotel and staff, good price. Bigg Thanks to all of you. Decent hotel close to night bazaar. Rooms basic but good. Perfer to be in tower room I think. Services are good but breakfast for me was cold most of the time. Good basic selection of food. Hotel very clean I thought. Pool was a little cool for me but ok. 3 night clubs at hotel. Great for younger adults. Beds were large and comfortable. Suggest this is a 3* type hotel. Front desk very effeciant. English was ok

The standard of this hotel has gone down since we stayed in it a couple of years ago. The rooms are looking very tired (we were not in the high rise section.) The breakfasts were ot nearly as good as in the past - poorer selection & presentation of food. Dirty cutlery. On the plus side Porn Ping is very well situated for the Night Bazaar.

Good location, 5 to 7 minutes walk to night market using the side gate.Hassle free with the tour agent just outside the hotel to plan for sightseeing and place of interest.The lady in the tour agent was also helpful to recommend shopping and the rate of the tu tu .Hotel is rather old but service and staff wre good and helpful.

Hotel is good located nearby Nightbasar, 20 min. to airport (taxi 150-200 THB). Rooms are clean but very used, not so nice. Bad restaurant, food not very good and the staff do their job . We never like to stay there once again.

OK - but you really need to be in the ower section - the front section rumbles from the nightclub even on the 6th floor. Really convenient to the night market. But staff at front desk are not very helpful - we wanted an extra night and they said we had to wait until that morning (two days later). We couldn't take the risk - so got another hotel - and as expected the Porn Ping easily had sufficient rooms and were then surpirsed that we had gotten another reservation. Best to be clear and forceful. BTW - the transfer from the airport is almost twice as expensive as a cab (if more than one person).
