After reading the positive feedback I booked this hotel. Unfortunately it was a mistake. Pros: - good location - bathroom was good - breakfast was ok Cons: - sleeping was not possible since the room was directed to the main road and it was loud all night (no isolation, there were holes between the window you could directly see through ...) - bed was not clean - booked for 3 persons, got towels, e.g. only for two - asked for a different room, they showed me 2 alternative rooms that were even worse - had to pay 1000 THB as deposit for the key card (they didn't mention it during booking) - reception staff not friendly - seen many 2-star hotels in Thailand that were far better than this 3-star hotel (rooms, service) - poor value for money

Don't stay here. My standards aren't overly high, I have lived in Bangkok for almost 5 years and stayed IN many places but this hotel is poor value for money. The breakfast is disgusting, the building is falling apart,the reception staff are unfriendly. You can do better for half the price!

We were surprised pleasantly next to arrival. Because we came already very early in the morning ( clock 05.30) We expected that we will have to wait, however they attached us to room at once. Room was located in old part of hotel, however she was very clean, large and we had no comments. Pool is just right, breakfasts and personnel were on level. We are recommending it considering price and all rest.

Перед бронированием гостиницы прочитала отзывы и ожидала гораздо худшего, но очень устраивал район, где находится, поэтому решила рискнуть. Почему-то некоторые писали, что отель нуждается в ремонте и обновлении мебели. На самом деле отель в нормальном состоянии, мебель в стиле ретро, но вовсе не какая-нибудь ободранная. Очень удобные кровати. Ванные комнаты большие, с окнами. В отеле есть СПА и массаж хорошего качества. Персонал предупредительный. В номерах нет сейфа, но есть на рецепции, бесплатно, берут залог 200 бат на случай потери ключа, который возвращают при выезде. Еще берут залог 1000 бат на случай потери электронного ключа от номера, тоже возвращают. Есть небольшой бассейн, только почему-то он работает с 8-00 до 18-00. Гостиница расположена очень удачно для туристов.В общем, хорошая гостиница для своего класса.

The hotel did not change the past five years, an excellent hotel, wonderful staff courteous, English speaking, the receptionist smiling, make sure to get us a room at our request because of the demonstrations outside the hotel. they patiently explained to us every question asked, in short ... a wonderful hotel with excellent location, at the King's palace and neer the kawasane. baths polished, if not new, and a feeling of home. I arrived at the Hotel at 2:30am and found that i could not access my room till 5:00am. Not happy. They should have notified me at booking stage. Other than that it was OK and the breakfast was great. Nice and close to the Red Shirt demonstrations to see what was going on. Had good view over the goings on in the street and gained a quick but limited education on the street people and how they live. Thailand is so full of life.

Pretty decent for about $40 (CDN) a night. The morning breakfast buffet (included in price of the room)was excellent with many many many choices. Great location for the Grand Palace (walking distance), stores, bank machines etc. The pool is a bonus on a hot day. I stayed here a total of 3 separate nights in three different rooms. Try get a room that doesn't face the main road if traffic noise bothers you. Two of the nights I had a room that faced the pool, which were nice and quiet. They do laundry as well if you need your clothes washed. The hotel is a little old...but that isn't a big deal at all. My only real complaint is that the beds are very hard. If you have back problems you may want to avoid this hotel. I recommend that they spend $15 a room and put a foam mattress topper on each of the beds.

Old fashioned rooms but cheap and clean. Just a handy stopping off point (particularly for the Koh San Road!). Wouldn't stop there for the view - its all built up, with traffic during the day, but rooms are quiet unless they have a demo on in the nearby park area! Staff are fine and friendly (maybe some are a little shy!). No problems at all other than the aircon set the temp too low for me - just had to drag a sheet on!

As usual, we were warmly received and had a wonderful stay at the Royal. The staff are always very friendly and considerate. We had a room in our favorite older wing of the hotel, but it was neat and clean and several updates have been made throughout this wing. I highly recommend the Royal to budget travelers who want a safe, clean lodging in an ideal location near Bangkok's attractions.

Right in the centre of the old town, between Khaosan Road and the Grand Palace, very convenient for tourists who seek to explore the major sights. The hotel is not new, but in good shape, very clean, has a nice lobby with an occasional piano player, plus a rich breakfast buffet. Many Thais also seem to stay there, so the place obviously offers good value for the moderate price. As usual, do not trust the taxi drivers who approach you at the entrance, only accept a taxi with a metre and insist that it is used! The staff of the hotel (also at the reception) do not all speak English, so it can sometimes become complicated to get what you want or to resolve a problem, if you are impatient.

I regret to say this... I use to visit Bangkok at least once a year for the last twenty years. If it is only possible I try to choose the(sentimental) location of the hotels in the Old City. This time once again it was Rattanakosin (Royal) Hotel-one of the oldest in the city. The problem is that the hotel year by year is running down. The management has tried once again to renovate the lobby- but the quality of the rooms in the so called New Wing (Old Wing was and is looking like the wholeshit) is worse and worse. The bathroom stinks. Windows are dirty. Theoretically white towels and sheets are getting still more and more gray. With the influx of tourists from Khao San Road the service quality is decreasing counter-proportionally. The only advantages are: the location and the relatively good buffet breakfast. Next time I will choose rather Swanna or Royal City

This was the 3th time we stayed in this hotel. Mostly because of the location (3 minutes walking from Khao San Road) and because it has a swimming pool/ Actually this time we agreed that there are no more reasons to stay there!! When you are there it seems like the staff only wants money from you and they don't give any service. Example: the taxiservice of the hotel (illegal as wel, we had to pay him in the car because the police was not supposed to see him) charge you 800 bath from the hotel to International Airport. The normal fare is like 300 (excl. taxes for the road, maybe 80 bath). We knew this and agreed a price of 400 bath so the taxidrive cost us like more than an hour because the drive didn't want to pay the fares for the raod. Breakfast is awfull! The eggs are raw and the food is cold! The staff is breaking breakfast up while you are eating. When i asked for a towel at the pool (you can't bring your own towel so you are supposed to), the staffmember looked at me and said: pfffffffffffff. Rest me to say if you really want to go there and expect nothing more than a bed and swimmingpool, ask for a room in the new wing because the old wing is at the road and very very noisy. New wing is more expensive and the rooms are the same but you will sleep better!

Tout d abord, un hôtel très bien situé pour visiter les principaux palais. La décoration est un peu kitch, mais les chambres sont spacieuses et bien équipées. Préférez la nouvelle aile complètement rénovée. Et si vous ne voulez pas de bruit la nuit, demandez vue sur la piscine (très agréable par ailleurs). Dans le cas contraire, il y aura sans doute un peu de bruit. Mais à Bangkok, comment échapper à ces désagréments. Pour ma part, nous étions en famille (trois enfants), et cet hôtel a des chambres contiguës (adjoining room), très pratique pour rester ensemble.

The hotel was very nicely located to see the royal palace and national museum. The staff was helpful and courteous. Considering the hotel was in the capitol, I would have thought they would have had some US currency on hand to make change for customers. They did not. The hotel in general could use some updating. The walls could use some paint, the carpets could be replaced and in general an updating of the hotel would help it's over all appeal. The breakfast was excellent, the pool acceptable and the restaurant was good.

The hotel was in a great location...very easy to walk to all sights and shopping. Staff was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The tour desk arranged a tour to the Bridge on River Kwai that was OK but the trip there was miserable. Way too many people crammed into a little van. Our only other problem was not really the hotel's fault. A rally going on in the park next door complete with loud microphones could be clearly heard every evening in our room until at least 10:00 p.m. Other than that it was a great budget choice.

The Royal Hotel is ideal for a few days, whilst visiting Bangkok. It offers a nice clean standard room with A/C and Buffet breaky (which is good). The Hotel is about a 45min distance from the airport but is very close to Koh San Road. Where there is great shopping. It is only a short Tuk Tuk ride to the main centre of Bangkok and markets.

I visited this hotel on the two previous days to check out the rooms, once with my 13 year old son and the next with my wife. When I presented my evoucher the next day at a savings of 1000 baht per night I don't think the receptionist was very pleased to see me. She insisted it would be an extra 500 baht a night for my son. Still a savings of 500 baht. No complaints about the room. Double and single bed in the room. Bath with excellent water pressure. Shared outside balcony with adjoining room overlooking a busy Bangkok intersection. Quiet efficient air conditioning. Good western style breakfast included (why do all the American breakfasts we ve had in Thailand only include fruit pineapple and watermelon. However would rather cash in my breakfast coupon and eat in the many food stalls outside.

I have stayed here on many occasions over the last 7 years. If you are looking for a 5-star international-class hotel then go elsewhere, but for me this place is just about perfect. So what if the rooms are a bit scruffy and the staff somewhat erratic - it has a load of character and soul which is so often lacking in larger hotels, making it a great place to stay. For the price (which includes a substantial breakfast buffet) I d not hesitate to recommnend it. Great location too, walking distance to the Chao Praya, Grand Palace and Khao San Road. Top Tips: Don't order a taxi in the foyer - less than half the price outside the front door - and try to get a room facing away from the noisy road outside.
