Bangkok is currently Asia's top tourist destination. It is Thailand's major tourist gateway, which means that the majority of foreign tourists arrive in Bangkok. The city boasts some of the country's most visited historical venues such as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun. A number of deluxe hotels can be found in Bangkok - Sukhumvit Road hosts a series of international chains as well as many boutique hotels. There are also large numbers of cheap hotels throughout the city, most notably in the backpackers' paradise of Khao San Road. Unlike Western cities, motels are uncommon in Bangkok.
